In February 2022, Mr. Hugo Jorge Diaz Romero, known as "Diaz", assumed the leadership of the Saudi Arabian football team Al Hilal for the second time. Diaz led the Saudi team in sixty matches, during which he gained the loyalty of the players and the fans. He achieved forty-one wins, in addition to nine draws, and suffered ten defeats. Diaz was honored with the league championship title for the 2021-2022 season. However, he lost the Mohammad bin Salman Cup final match to Al-Fayha, but managed to win the same cup in the following season, 2022-2023, after defeating Al-Wahda in the final penalty shootout. At the end of the season, Diaz's team ranked third in the league table.
