Fatima Al-Banawi shares first look of new film "Basma"

Saudi actress Fatima Al-Banawi has revealed the first look of her new film ‘Basma’, a story she wrote herself and also directed. The film depicts a young Saudi woman who returns to her hometown after completing her university studies in the United States, only to discover that her family has been hiding some difficult issues from her. The character of Basma is a lost soul, caught in a web of a sick father and chaotic family relationships, which leaves her alone in a search for a way to restore her life and that of her family to its former glory. Fatima Al-Banawi is known for her work in the Egyptian film ‘Agent Zero’ where she received rave reviews for her performance as “Laila”, despite the comedy film being wrapped in tragic situations. The film also starred several other names including Akram Hosni, Bayoumi Fouad, and Munther Rihanah, and was directed by Karim Al-Adl with a script by Wael Abdel-Fattah. In an interview, Al-Banawi discussed how she approached her first acting role, stating that “the first of these things is the realization of a more detailed meaning, it is to expect that the sentences and phrases you repeat will not make the viewer laugh.” Al-Banawi had a wide standing in Arab drama and appeared in many television series such as “60 Minutes”, “Beyond Nature” and “Doubt”, and made her Lebanese drama debut with “Shak”.
