King Charles III hosted South Korean girl group Blackpink at Buckingham Palace during a visit by South Korean President Moon Jae-in and his wife Kim Jung-sook to the UK. As part of a high-level banquet for the presidential couple, the famous band members were among approximately 170 guests attending the event, where King Charles III praised the group in his speech, according to People magazine. Charles III began his speech with a welcoming Korean word and praised the good relations between the two countries, commending South Korea's steps towards sustainability and the group for carrying the message of environmental sustainability and becoming ambassadors for the UK presidency of the Cop26 conference. Blackpink had urged the world to unite in addressing climate change in a message to world leaders at the Cop26 summit in Glasgow. The BBC noted that the group became the first Korean act to headline a major UK music festival in July last year after breaking a record at Coachella in the US, becoming the first Asian and the first female act to headline.
