The Notebook star, Gina Roland, passes away: Legendary screen icon mourned.

Actress Gena Rowlands has died at the age of 94, surrounded by family, after being diagnosed with dementia some time ago. Rowlands was most famous for her collaborations with her late husband, actor and director John Cassavetes, including her role in "The Notebook", directed by their son Nick Cassavetes. She was also known for her performance in "A Woman Under the Influence". Rowlands was born in Wisconsin in June 1930, and began acting in the 1950s, making her first appearance on Broadway in "The Seven Year Itch". She and Cassavetes formed a remarkable duo in Hollywood, often financing their own films using money they earned from more commercial acting projects. They worked together on 10 films, including "A Child Is Waiting", "Faces", "Machine Gun McCain", "Minnie and Moskowitz", and "Tempest". Two of their films, "A Woman Under the Influence" and "Gloria", earned Rowlands Oscar nominations for Best Actress. She continued to act, garnering acclaim for the TV movie "An Early Frost" and her portrayal of Betty Ford in "The Betty Ford Story", and winning her first Emmy for her role in the film "Something About Amelia" in 1992. She worked alongside her children, including in "The Notebook" directed by Nick Cassavetes. She was married to John Cassavetes from 1954 until his death in 1989, and they had three children together: Nick, Zoe and Alexandra. She married retired businessman Robert Forrest in 2012. In 2015, Rowlands was awarded an honorary Oscar, thanking her late husband for his contribution to her many successes.
