The Saudi Film Commission has joined the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI),a non-profit global organisation representing more than 360 film commissions in more than 40 countries. The Saudi alliance is to help develop the country’s film industry and create a place for Saudi film globally, boosting local production companies and talent. The AFCI offers a range of services, such as international communication, training, development and learning about the best practices in the industry. The organisation also provides resources and funding opportunities for film commissions, production companies and professionals. The AFCI aims to facilitate collaborative productions between countries. The Saudi move follows a period of rapid growth in its domestic film industry, with cinemas recently opening in the country after 35 years of closure. Saudi Arabia is now looking to establish itself as a hub for Arabic filmmaking.
