Saudi cinema achieves new milestone at Tribeca Film Festival.

Saudi Arabia's short film "Kum Kum," by director Dara Al-Jomaih, has been selected to participate in the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. The film is the first Saudi Arabian film to be chosen in the festival's short film competition, which was established in 2002 by Hollywood star Robert De Niro. "Kum Kum" tells the story of a teenager who witnesses a tragic accident involving the drowning of her friend while they are playing on the beach, and how she deals with the psychological shock and constant fear of water. The film is based on real events – the loss of Al-Jomaih's friend. The director said that her deceased friend had a significant impact on her, and she wanted to keep her alive in her heart by telling her story. "Kum Kum" was Al-Jomaih's graduation project from the film school at Al-Ahliyya University in Jeddah. It was also screened at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah in 2023.
