"Indieqaround" kicks off festival screenings, "Enrichment" backs 15 Saudi films at "Saudi Films" 10th edition.

The 10th edition of the Saudi Film Festival began on Thursday, organized by the Cinema Society in partnership with the King Abdul Aziz Cultural Center (Ethr) and supported by the Saudi Film Commission. The festival runs until May 9 and showcases films from local, GCC, and international filmmakers. Ethr announced its support for 15 new films, to be announced soon, as part of a general strategy to support Saudi movies for competition on the regional and global levels. The festival features a variety of workshops, lectures, and specialized classes, along with the release of the Saudi Encyclopedia of Cinema, as well as expanding to assist local filmmakers. Ethr has produced 23 Saudi Arabian films that were screened at more than 90 regional and global festivals. These films won more than 30 awards and the festival has become a window for Saudi cinema on the world.

The festival annually honors veteran Saudi artist Abdulmohsin Alnemr for his career spanning more than 40 years. The festival ended with the opening film, “Underground,” a documentary by director Abdulrahman Sandokji that sheds light on the Kingdom’s musical talents.
