Launch Details of Saudi Short Films: "Kabreet" and "Layla"

Two Saudi Arabian short films, "Kabreet" by Salma Merdad and "Layla" by Zakariya Al-Bashir, will debut commercially at a cinema in Jeddah. Both films explore the impact of mental illness on individuals and showcase the talents of Saudi filmmakers who are helping to enrich the country's cinema scene. "Kabreet", written and directed by Salma Merdad, features two brothers struggling with conflicting emotions and memories, as they try to uncover the truth behind one's mental health issues. The film premiered at the Red Sea Film Festival and won the Abdulla Al-Muhaisen Award for best debut work at the Saudi Film Festival. "Layla", meanwhile, is a film about a young girl with a vivid imagination who takes refuge in the stories she creates, to escape the hardships of her everyday life. The film has been shown at festivals in Greece, Tunisia, Bahrain, and Cyprus.
