"Harry Potter" author faces up to 7 years in prison

J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, has challenged Scotland's new hate crime law, which came into effect on Monday and punishes anyone using the wrong pronoun for a transgender person. Rowling used the pronoun "he" instead of "she" in reference to various transgender women, including convicted sex offenders and public figures. In response, several individuals filed complaints against Rowling and called for her arrest upon her return to Scotland. However, the police clarified that Rowling's comments do not constitute a crime and that no action will be taken against her. Rowling defended her comments, stating that she believes in treating all women equally under the law, including biological sex being recognized as an important factor.
