The Saudi Ministry of Culture, through the Jeddah Historical Program, has announced the completion of a project aimed at reinforcing and rescuing 56 buildings in Jeddah's historic district, which were at risk of collapse due to their age and lack of maintenance. This project was supported by a 50 million SAR contribution from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's private funds, in line with his vision for preserving the kingdom's historic and cultural heritage. The Jeddah Historical District is home to over 600 heritage buildings, 36 historic mosques, and five historic markets, including the old seafront which served as a major route for pilgrims. The project was carried out by five Saudi companies with expertise in heritage preservation, under the supervision of experienced technical experts. Some of the buildings are over 500 years old and have landmarks of archaeological significance. This project is part of the Crown Prince's broader initiative to revitalize Jeddah's historic district by making it a center for business, cultural projects, and tourism. The initiative aims to improve the district's infrastructure, natural environment, and livability, while also enhancing its cultural and urban aspects to position it as an inspiring and globally renowned site, inspiring creativity for residents and visitors alike.
