Production company sues film producers of Whitney Houston for using songs without licenses, demands $3.6M.

Sony Music has filed a lawsuit against four companies involved in the production of the Whitney Houston biopic, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, for using her songs without permission. The suit alleges that the companies did not pay for using 24 of Houston’s famous songs and seeks compensation of at least $3.6 million, as well as an injunction against copyright infringement. Some of the songs that were used without permission include I Wanna Dance With Somebody, How Will I Know, and I Will Always Love You. Whitney Houston signed with Arista Records in 1983, a company now owned by Sony Music. Houston died in February 2012 at the age of 48, after taking a fatal dose of drugs and alcohol. She won six Grammy awards in her successful career and was known for her romantic ballads, including I Will Always Love You and I Have Nothing.
