George Clooney has stated that he has no intention of returning to his role as Batman after appearing in the upcoming film, The Flash. Clooney had previously portrayed the character in Batman & Robin, a widely criticized film from 1997 directed by Joel Schumacher. During an interview while promoting his new film The Boys In The Boat, Clooney joked that there was too much hype about his return as Batman and when asked if he could be convinced to reprise the role again, he replied that he "didn't think there were enough reasons in the world" to do so. In a separate interview with Variety in 2021, Clooney joked that Batman & Robin "killed" the superhero genre, calling it "a bad film" and that he refused to let his wife, Amal, watch it. Several actors who have previously portrayed Batman appeared in The Flash, including Clooney, Michael Keaton, and Ben Affleck.
