Egyptian actress Hala Shiha has officially announced her return to acting in the upcoming Ramadan 2024 series, Empire of Meme, alongside actors Khaled El Nabawy and his son Nour El Nabawy. Shiha had previously retired from acting and wore the hijab, but sought to return to the profession earlier this year by negotiating a lead role in the series Rights of Arabs opposite Ahmed Al-Awadi. However, her membership in the Egyptian Actors' Syndicate was suspended in July 2021 after she released a statement distancing herself from the profession of acting. Shiha later expressed interest in returning to acting, but the Syndicate stipulated that her comeback required approval from the industry and senior stars, as well as being a "last chance." Despite this, no official communication took place between the two parties. Shiha's announcement comes with an apology to all Egyptian actors, including the head of the Syndicate, for previous misstatements that were circulated incorrectly by the media.
