Elton John Returns for Part 2 of This Is Spinal Tap.

Director Rob Reiner has announced that the legendary music mockumentary, "This Is Spinal Tap," from 1984, will be getting a sequel titled "Spinal Tap II". The new release will feature some of the world's most famous stars such as Paul McCartney, Elton John, and will also include a special appearance by singer Gareth Brooks. Reiner, aged 76, hinted at "some other surprises" that will be included in the story during a podcast episode titled "RHLSTP with Richard Herring," and revealed that filming will commence in late February. This announcement comes after a report from Deadline in May 2022 which announced the long-awaited sequel. "This Is Spinal Tap" has become an integral part of popular culture for the past four decades, introducing many famous phrases and the concept of "turning it up to 11". It also contributed to the popularity of satirical mockumentary films. The second installment will see Reiner reprise his role as the director Marty Di Bergi, as well as the band members David St. Hubbins (played by Michael McKean),Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest),and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer). According to Reiner's statements to Deadline, the idea for the sequel revolves around the concept that the band "hasn't spent time together lately" and will come together due to a contract from their late manager, Ian Faith (played by Tony Hendra in the original film and who passed away in 2021). Reiner reveals that Faith's widow inherited a contract that states Spinal Tap owes them a concert and that they were going to sue if it wasn't performed. Speaking about the role of Marty in the new film, Reiner said had a deep respect for the band, and felt sorry they didn't like what they saw in the original film. Reiner prides himself on documenting this final concert and looks forward to the enthusiasm of the audience for this legendary film. The film is set to be released in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the original film, and Reiner and his team seem excited to revive this cinematic legend with the addition of new musical superstars.
