The decisions made by the Egyptian Acting Professions Union against the makers of the TV series “Batan Al Hawa” came as a result of numerous violations, numbering up to 55 in total, and not just due to the involvement of TikTok celebrity Krowan Mashakel in the series, according to Ashraf Zaki, the Head of the Acting Professions Union. The series employed 83 people of which only 25 were members of the union. The union blocked members from working with the series’ director as a result of the unprecedented amount of violations. The union imposed a fine of EGP 1mn ($63,400) on Mashakel’s company and banned the union members from working with the director, Ahmed Fawzi Saleh. The directors’ guild criticized the union’s decision.
