Colombian pop star Shakira has avoided court by reaching an agreement with Spanish prosecutors to settle a tax evasion charge. The singer appeared before a judge in Barcelona to admit to defrauding Spanish tax authorities of €14.5m ($16.3m) between 2012 and 2014. Prosecutors had called for her to receive an eight-year prison sentence. The new deal will see her pay a fine. She previously denied any wrongdoing and said she lived in the Bahamas during this period and was only in Spain for visits to her Spanish partner, footballer Gerard Pique.
