Actress Sophia Loren has undergone surgery after suffering a fracture to her thigh bone when she fell at her home in Switzerland. It is reported that her sons were by her side in hospital and the procedure was successful. The 89-year-old's accident occurred just days before the opening of her new restaurant in Bari, Italy. Loren had been due to travel to the region and discuss the opening and future restaurants, however, she has now cancelled all engagements. The latest appearance by Loren was at an Armani fashion show in Venice on 2 September.
