The 13th edition of the Luxor African Film Festival will be held from February 9-15, 2024, in coordination with other African film festivals and based on recommendations from the Ministry of Culture's festivals committee. The festival is currently accepting entries for long and short narrative and documentary films, as well as African diaspora films and Egyptian student films, until November 25, 2023. The festival will be named after Egyptian director Khairy Beshara, and a book will be released about his work by critic Essam Zakaria. Mali has been chosen as the festival's guest of honour as a tribute to its rich cinematic history and contributions to African cinema. The late Senegalese director Safi Faye, who was the first female director from sub-Saharan Africa, will also be honoured, and a book will be released about her work. The Luxor African Film Festival has been held since 2011 by the Independent Artists Foundation, under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and in partnership with other ministries and organizations.
