Colombian singer Shakira will be awarded the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs),becoming the first-ever South American artist to receive the honour. The award is seen as the “army” of Michael Jackson and is given annually to artists who have made significant contributions to music through music videos. The ceremony will take place on September 13 and Shakira is expected to perform some of her biggest hits, including a performance with Carol G. Previous recipients of the award include Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, and Kanye West. Shakira has recently achieved success with her song “Bzrp Music Sessions”, which set a record in the Guinness World Records. In addition to receiving the award, Shakira is celebrating the release of her album “El Dorado”, which includes hit tracks like “La Bicicleta”, “Chantaje”, and “Me Enamoré”. She is expected to put on a unique musical performance at the VMAs.
