Elon Musk announced on Friday that his proposed MMA fight with Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Networks, may take place in Italy, as the Italian government confirmed talks about a charity event. The heads of X (formerly Twitter) and Meta, two rival tech giants, had discussed the possibility of a filmed MMA fight in late June, with August 26 given as a possible date for the event. Musk added that "everything, within the range covered by the camera, will be similar to what happened in ancient Rome, so there's nothing new in that." The MMA fight, if it takes place, will be managed by the two competing networks. According to a statement on Friday, the Italian Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gennaro Sangiuliano, said that he discussed with Elon Musk the organization of "a big charity event that invokes history," and the event will not take place in Rome and may not happen at the Colosseum. The potential amount raised, estimated in millions of euros, will be donated to Italian hospitals for children. Musk wrote on his platform, which he bought last year for $44 billion, that "everything will reflect the appreciation for Italy's past and present." These tech giants have clashed for years around conflicting views on politics, AI, and more, but the confrontation escalated with the launch of Meta and the announcement of its application "Threads," which is considered a direct competitor to Twitter, known officially as X.
