Lebanese singer Elissa has criticised the country's culture minister for banning the film Barbie from screening due to "moral and religious values". The singer launched the diatribe against culture minister Mohammed Al-Ahmad through a series of tweets, saying: "I hope the culture minister knows less about online content and Netflix than how to cut our communications… banning Barbie is one of the stupidest decisions that makes our country and its institutions more regressive." The culture minister issued the ban in May and directed Lebanon's general security and interior ministries "to prevent the screening of the film Barbie". He has since sent a copy of his directive to the prosecutor-general of the appeals court to implement the ban.
