Paul McCartney has defended the upcoming new Beatles song, which was made using artificial intelligence (AI),saying that there will be “nothing artificially or synthetically created” on the track. Last week, the musician announced that “the final song” had been completed by the group, which included drummer Ringo Starr and the late George Harrison and John Lennon, using AI. The new track does not feature a digitally-generated likeness of Lennon’s voice. However, AI was used to create a pure version of Lennon’s voice on the song “Pure”. McCartney was inspired to complete the track after seeing Sir Peter Jackson’s 2021 Beatles documentary “Get Back”, which contains footage of the band playing the song. The song, reportedly titled “Now and Then”, was originally written by Lennon and passed on to McCartney by his widow Yoko Ono on a cassette tape labelled “For Paul”. The track was considered for release as part of the band’s “Anthology” project but was not included. The Beatles instead chose to release two other tracks, “Real Love” and “Free As a Bird”.
