He is a former Egyptian football player and current coach. He was born on June 19, 1947 in Kafr El-Dawar city. He played for Zamalek, Kazma and Al Arabi clubs in Kuwait, and won...Read more the award for the Best Player in Asia in 1970. After he retired in 1983, he worked in the field of coaching and succeeded with many Egyptian clubs. He won the 2003 African Championship with the Egyptian youth team. Then he made many important achievements during his training for the Egyptian national team from 2004 to 2011, most notably leading the team to win the African Cup of Nations three times in a row in 2006, 2008 and 2010. He also won the CAF Award for the Best Coach in Africa for the year 2008. He was ranked as the Best Coach in Africa in 2010 in the rankings of the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) and was chosen among the top 5 coaches in the history of the African continent. He guest-starred as himself in the film The International (2009).
