Turki Al-Sheikh, the head of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, announced the launch of a new literary award called "The Golden Pen for the Novel." The award will focus on the most popular novels that can be adapted into films and will have a total prize of $690,000, divided as follows: 1st place: $100,000 and the winning work will be adapted into a film produced by the Entertainment Authority. 2nd place: $50,000 and the winning work will be adapted into a film produced by the Entertainment Authority. 3rd place: $30,000. Additional prizes include “Best Translated Novel” award worth $100,000, and a $30,000 audience choice award voted through a dedicated online platform. The award will also recognize winners in different categories such as romance, mystery, comedy, action, fantasy, police, horror, and history, each carrying a prize of $25,000. The primary judging committee will consist of three writers, three screenwriters, and three producers from the Arab world. In addition, there will be an additional committee for the first stage of sorting. The announcement of the winners of the competition will be made through a big televised awards ceremony and various platforms. The competition will be open to original works in Arabic, from all nationalities and ages. Al-Sheikh expressed his enthusiasm for this initiative, saying, "I am very excited about this significant move that will benefit Arab novelists and the film industry in the region."
